I was born in Veracruz, Mexico, on September 10, 1963. After my family moved back to Italy, I attended high school in Brescia, specializing in languages, and later I graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of Florence..In Florence, in 1983, I became actively involved in the European Federalist Movement and in 1987 I was elected European General Secretary of the European Organisation of Young Federalists (“JEF”), and I moved to Brussels. From 1991 to 1993 I continued following youth policies, as President of the European Co-ordinating Bureau of Youth’ NGOs. From 1990 until the elections for the European Parliament (EP) in 1999, I worked for the Green/EFA Group in the EP, as an advisor on institutional issues, I was elected a member of the EP in Belgium, as part of the Belgian Green Party (ECOLO). In the European elections of June 2004, I was re-elected at the EP with the Italian Greens. From 2002 to 2009 I was Co-President of the Green/EFA Group in the EP, together with Daniel Cohn-Bendit. From October 2009 I am co-President of the European Green Party with Philippe Lamberts, MEP.
